MAG brand airsoft magazines and Kalash AEGs

I received an email from a fellow Kalash user about magazine compatibility. Kalash is widely thought to be incompatible with most of the Tokyo Mauri AK clone magazines, from manufacturers like G&G, Classic Army, MAG and even TM themselves.

This situation is particularly frustrating when you are a mid-cap fan - like myself - where you require a healthy collection of magazines available to you. And lots of mags means you really want cheap mags. Of the manufactures out there one company supplies the needs of the average mid-cap fan by producing relatively cheap magazines that are reliable and fairly hardy, MAG.

However, MAG seems to fall foul of the Kalash 'incompatibility' with any other magazine but Kalash mags.

This was the subject of teh eamil query sent to me - I have a Kalash AKS74U and a eagle eyed visitor to my Flickr armoury seemed to notice that I was using MAG magazines!

The answer to this apparent conundrum is that I have found - with time and effort - MAG mid-caps actually DO fit in the Kalash range of AK AEGs. The 'secret', if you can call it that, is that the cheaper, softer plastic that the MAG mags are made of 'wears in' and eventually you will simply find that the MAG brand mid-caps simply click into place!

I have successfully used MAG mid-caps in both my my Kalash AKS74U (RK-01) and their AK74M (RK05), with no problems with feeding or reliability. Only MAG's AK waffle style AK mags seem to defy my attempts to get them to fit the Kalash...So far!

Above: My Kalash AKS74U with MAG Bakalite magazine fitted. Next to it you can see a set of MAG Plum AK74 magazines which I also use with my KAlash AKs with no problem.
