AK74 super hi-cap magazines

Kalash AK74U with hicap mags

I just recieved some addtional firepower in the shape of some super hi-caps for my AK74 AEGs. Each of the above mags can hold 1000 BBs - meaning no fiddley and awkward reloads at the wrong moment (hopefully)!

I have bought two types of super hi-caps - one by Element and the other made by DBoys. The Element 'super banana' gets its high capacity by adding extra length, while the DBoys add extra space for all those BBs by 'fattening' the mag.

The DBoys 'Quad Stacker' magazine is the length of a normal AK74 magazine - so you can see just how much longer the Element extended mag is - it's a beast!

Above: Here you can see the DBoy 'fat boy' in all it's chubby glory!

Of the two types - Element and DBoy - I suppose the DBoy is actually more practical in two ways. First of all type finding a pouch for the Element mag! But also, the Element mag is made from a very cheap glossy black plastic which I just don't like (I may have to get the Plasticote spray paint out).

Both magazine a fairly cheap - the ELement was from Hong Kong at just $9.99 and the DBoys was from Airsoft Supply Drop, here in the UK, at just £9.99. The Element mag is also available in Soviet bakalite orange (very nice companion for you RPK owners).

I used to have a couple of the fat boy mags but gave up on them after one game. I don't know wether it was the mags or the RPK but they struggled to feed in the RPK. In hindsight it could have been that the RPK was using a 9.6v battery and firing faster than the mags could feed.

I'm tempted to get a couple of the large banana mid cap mags for my AK's but I will have to wait.

Hi Drezha - I've had a 'fat boy' for a while, and it's been reliable (so far), which is why I bought two more. It's just one of those things though, isn't it - a mag which feeds great in one AEG may misbehave badly in another!

It will be interesting to see how the Element mag holds up - it feels cheap and I don't give it much chance of harsh treatment!

I didn't have a good experience w/ dBoy's fat mag neither. The feeding is just unreliable, about 10 shots and stop. Lucky that you have the ones that work out great for you. I love dBoy hi-cap, though, and that's what I carry these days, 4 hi-cap mags. That's plenty of BBs, don't you think? :-)

I must've just been lucky - let's hope the two additional mags I bought will be OK then!

I simply use super-hicaps in place of taking the additional bottle of BBs, so they are ready to use without the fiddly re-loading.

This is OK - of course - when you play on a site with no ammo restrictions (I got these mags for one particular site I play on) - otherwise I actually prefer mid-caps as I like the thrill of having to hurriedly changing mags! :)

Best of luck to you!

I don't know whether it is a curse or a blessing that the field I play has no mid-cap mag restriction/requirement. So, this hi-cap is a potential to be a bad habit forming. :-)

Ah, the thrill of changing mag. I've a tendency to be half panic while changing my mag. I don't know what to do w/ my spent mag, and I don't seem to get along well w/ my dump pouch.

For a bigger thrill, try going into a fire fight w/ a mid-cap, a hi-cap, and a bottle of BBs. You really feel vulnerable when you scream to your teammate, "Reload!", while filling up the hi-cap mag.

I just have to share that w/ you.
