Fun with FRAPS - recording a game video
OK, this was just a bit of fun - and I certainly haven't got the settings or quality worked out properly yet. But here's a little video I made using the FRAPS software of me taking out a couple of enemy trucks in ArmA2!
If you play it in YouTube's HQ you get a better idea of what's going on. I'll hopefully get better at making these sort of in-game movies, registering (buying) the full version of FRAPS will help as the demo version only allows 30 second clips.
The one interesting thing you do see in this wee movie is the rather useful third-person mode. I've never really liked third-person games, but the ability to switch between first and third person views in ArmA2 is actually a very useful one and I have taken to it.

The third person is majorly useful when driving tanks - select the turn out option and all the crew members stick out the turret and other holes. Which is very cool - esopcially as if you come under attack they automatically get back in the tank.
FRAPS is useful - I had to use it to take screenshots of the game as Xfire doesn't currently support ArmA2 it appears and the Print Scrn button doesn't work (and ArmA2 neglects to have a Screen Capture button built in)
Hi D! Absolutely - I was frustrated when I couldn't use the normal screenshot options. But on the up-side this led me to FRAPS and it's a lucky find. I can see me making more movies now.
You are also spot on about third person views and driving. I find the first person view very restricting inside a cab. But even in infantry mode the third person view gives you a lot of the 'peripheral vision' that you loose in most FPS games...
I was just saying to a mate the other day that in CoD4 I make so many accidental team kills because team mates run in front of me *just* when I fire on some enemy. I am just not aware they are next to me...
Playing in third person gives you a lot more spacial awareness, but ArmA2 makes it easy to automatically switch back into first person view when you need to.
I'm impressed.
